It can measure inflammation, vascular stiffness, mitochondrial dysfunction, sarcopenia, osteoporosis, sleep disruption, cognitive slowing, frailty, disability, and mortality. It has identified mechanisms that increase vulnerability, created therapies that prevent suffering, restored function after illness, and extended human life. These achievements are indispensable. This book is not written against physiology, geroscience, geriatrics, frailty research, rehabilitation, neuroscience, or medicine. It is written because their common organization of thought remains incomplete. Contemporary aging science commonly places aging physiology at the center and consciousness at the periphery. It begins with the body: cells, tissues, organs, metabolism, inflammation, vessels, muscles, neural networks, biomarkers, disease burden, functional decline, and risk of death. Only later does it...
